Globalization

            Globalization is a term used by some people to illustrate the increasing dependence of people and countries around the world. This process has increased dramatically over the last decades, due to rapid advancement in technology. This new era of globalization has offers a new challenges and a new global problems, such as environmental disasters, lack of natural resources, bloody conflicts, and poverty. As we know that today globalization has created many negative impact to Indonesian people. Some of the negative impact is the flow of information is increasing uncontrollably, in this case we must sort and choose information that has a good impact for us because not all of information is trusted. In the next 10 - 20 years later, I will choose and sort information which is good and bad for me, so I do not get false information. Another negative impact to Indonesian people is the outbreak of westernization (Westernized attitudes). Surely this kind of attitude is not always bad, but it is good if we are proud and apply the indigenous culture of Indonesia around our environment. The presence of globalization has a devastating effect on the application of Indonesia's slowly faded local cultures, but the growing use of cultures from the west is increasing and growing in this country. 10 – 20 years in the future, maybe I will try to apply the original culture in Indonesia around our environment. Other than that, there is Increasingly appereance of individualism. Now this is the bad impact of globalization that we can directly feel in the community, which is the emergence of individualism attitudes in the community. The proof is when we are gathering with a lot of people, there are just people who are playing with their own smartphone / gadget. This proves that individualism is emerging and we must be aware that humans are social creature and people needs other people to interact and work together. In the future, I will try my best to become open to others (people, friends, family, etc) and become less quiet or being alone because I like being alone sometimes and it looks like I do not have any friends. Besides that, the gap between the rich people and poor people becomes wider. Globalization gives a bad influence to social inequality, for example, the gap between the poor people and rich people becomes wider. Globalization gives a opportunity for educated people and the one that has large capital become richer, and on the one side, globalization gives a narrowness to the people that is less fortunate to become more difficult. In the future, I will try to give contribution for the poor people or the people that is less fortunate. After that, another impact because of globalization is increased in consumptive lifestyle. It is a common thing that right now, there is many product in the country. This situation do not want to make Indonesian citizen especially the one who loves world enjoyment, competing to buy and collect products that they don’t actually need like, it is just a desire. For 10 – 20 years later, my opinion is, we don’t have to buy things that we don’t actually need. So, before buying something, we will have to think, the product that we are going to buy is going to be useful in the future or it will be used many times (like important things) or not, if it is not necessarily needed, i think it would be better if we didn’t buy it. Indonesian culture that is slowly getting eroded. In this situation, maybe lots of people know foreign culture more well than in their own culture, like most of people likes Korean song more than Indonesian songs (like dangdut for example). In the next 10 – 20 years later, for me, I also more like western songs, but I also have to remember Indonesian culture as well. The positive impact of globalization is access to information becomes increasingly open. Now, people can access information through many media, like television, internet, social media, etc. this will make people’s mindset become more open, smart, and critical in acting. With this, we can also look for information easily, like search for diseases, information about news that happen from other countries, and knowledge. In the 10 – 20 years in the future, there will be a lot of new information appears, so I will use media to listen to the information, and still we have to sort and choose the information which is good or not, because not all information is good for us.
